The Queen Is Dead was The Smiths' third studio album. This is the value of working at cross-purposes: The Smiths were Morrissey's excuse to undulate his wry, disaffected lyrics and Johnny Marr's vehicle for his sharp, chiming, pop songs. Their favourite kind of compromise made them essentially a singles band, and The Queen Is Dead has a couple of their best (notably "The Boy With The Thorn In His Side", one of the greatest pop expressions of the Love That Dare Not Speak Its Name). But it also has some wonderful compromises of different kinds: the bizarrely romantic "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" and "Cemetry Gates", where Marr covers up for Morrissey's floridity with shimmying rockabilly.

I only rate albums 5.0 because I only choose albums that deserve it, and the ones who don't, I just don't rate them. Nothing can be said that hasn't been said before (or written for that matter) so altough I tend to start writing passionately and say a lot of stuff from the heart (that's why my reviews suck so big) instead of judging quietly before I put my opinion about something on paper (or computer for that matter), I will just say that this is my favourite album of all time, and even if sometimes they are not the same for some people, it's what I think the best album of all time, and its not like I listen to few music, from A Tribe Called Quest to Pantera, from Morphine to Oasis, from Audion to Miles Davis, from Fleetwood Mac to Weezer, from A Place to Bury Strangers to Goodie Mob (here I am writing passionately), from Dead Kennedys to The Congos, from Neil Young to X, from Silver Apples to Boards of Canada, from Iron Maiden to felix the house cat (maybe I should stop.. i'm making a fool outta myself). And from all my music incyclopedia, I choose The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths as the Greatest Album of Music of All Time and therefore. should i leave stupid comments in the end? should I? should I? should I? should I? No, I better not... before it's too late.
