Metallica's Master Of Puppets is the greatest and most influential Heavy Metal album of all time, let me repeat that, OF ALL TIME. The earth had never heard an album that was anything near a combination of this brutal yet complex before it was released. Every song on it is a perfect symphony of pure brutal and aggressive power and in that sense it is among the most perfect albums ever released, period. Every member of the band here is working on all eight cylinders. Lars Ulrich's Drumming is stunningly fast, powerful, and focused. Kirk Hammett's Guitar parts are lightning fast and hideously complex. And there never has, and never will again, be a Bassist that sounds anything like Cliff Burton. And oh yeah, James Hetfield's Vocals fit the music perfectly. From the lightning-storm fury of Battery, to the the brutally beautiful Master Of Puppets, to the Thrash meets Doom insanity of The Thing That Should Not Be. to the fantastic despair of Welcome Home (Sanitarium), to the indescribable epic Orion, this album truly defines the word masterpiece.
