Jagged Little Pill is the third studio album (and international debut) by Canadian singer Alanis Morissette, released on June 13, 1995. It was her first album to be released worldwide as her first two albums were released only in Canada. The album was a stylistic departure from her first two albums, which featured a new-jack swing and dance-pop musical style. Morissette began work on the album after moving from her hometown, Ottawa to Toronto; she made little progress until she travelled to Los Angeles, where she met producer Glen Ballard. Morissette and Ballard had an instant connection and began co-writing and experimenting with sounds.
The experimentation resulted in an alternative rock album that takes influence from post-grunge and pop rock, and features guitars, keyboards, drum machines, and harmonica. The lyrics touch upon themes of aggression and unsuccessful relationships, while Ballard introduced a pop sensibility to Morissette's angst.

This album is awesome. Every song is great. I just listened to it last night for the first time in ages and it thrilled me to the core. It was like I was back in middle school air guitaring to the shitty solo in You Oughta Know. Alanis brings the 90s grrl rock similar to Liz Phair or early PJ, but with a likeable n' commercially viable pop/rock twist of Sheryl Crow or something. Her lyrics are great and mad at boys and I really dug that. Fuck you boys! My brother made fun of me for liking this but he's a boy, what the fuck do you expect. Lots of anthems and catchy choruses. The singles are perfect and the album tracks should have been singles. The drums sound really fake. There's better stuff out there, but come on. This is the soundtrack of my generation you bastards. To the tune of Ironic, YOU'RE LIKE SCHOO-EE-OOOOOL, ON A SAT-UR-DAY (no class)
