To celebrate the twentieth year since the release of their debut album, Oasis are re-releasing their first three studio albums over the course of 2014. All three albums have been meticulously remastered and released in chronological order, with a carefully-selected collection of rarities and additional tracks taken from Oasis label Big Brother Recordings and the band’s own archives.

Maturity for Oasis? Well, at least when it came to songwriting? Slightly longer songs and less reliance on the big riff? Whatever it may be this album contains some of the best tunes of the mid-'90s. "Don't Look Back in Anger", "Some Might Say", "Wonderwall", "Cast No Shadow", and the positively epic "Champagne Supernova" (epic for the bruiser boys, that is). Just a simple recitation of these titles makes me feel good, and even now I find myself singing along - at work (I mostly work alone, thank goodness). The band is still mildly plagued by stiff playing (which would continue no matter how many firings) and stilted energy, and some of the lyrics touch on Dylan's worst atrocities, and Morning Glory doesn't have the immediate impact of Definitely Maybe, but these tunes are such a fucking zeitgeist for this particular era that it doesn't much matter, does it? Ah, how wonderful it is to hark back to those days when even a heady music snob like myself could openly listen to hook-laden rock.
