Utterly, totally captivating. For intensity, few songs have ever equalled it. It starts off like so many Joy Division songs with an ominous bassline and it just keeps ratcheting up the pressure until you are trapped in this claustrophic world of cold, layered post-punk guitars, robotic drumbeats and the unearthly wailing of Ian Curtis. Finally his voice rises into a sort of strangled shriek and then the whole thing has reached an urgent, rather disturbing climax. It is both manically triumphant and marked with a sense of fatalistic doom. Not even Arcade Fire have ever matched this for sheer emotive power.
