UK collection, a thrilling installment in the much lauded Decca Records archival Scene series that focuses on the label's diverse and influential '60s catalog. Included are early contributions from Eric Clapton, Mick Fleetwood, Peter Green, Alexis Korner, John Mayall and Rod Stewart. Record Store Day exclusive.

I don't know who has had access to Decca's vaults but, lucky people, they've come up some gems from their great 60's blues catalogue. Listen to cuts from Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated, 1964, the long lost Blues Now lp, 1965, Raw Blues, 1966, John Mayall's first three Decca albums, and the Savoy Brown and Keef Hartley bands from later in the decade. Although it's an uneven collection, as compilations usually are, there are some great tracks, especially from US visitors. Eddie Boyd, Champion Jack Dupree, Curtis Jones and Otis Spann, all benefited from contributions from British musicians, among them Eric Clapton, Steve Angelo (Winwood), and the inevitable Bluesbreakers.

Some of Champion Jack Dupree's work for Decca, including the rare London Special 1964 ep with Keith Smith's Jazz Band, still remains hidden away; I'd love to hear his All Right (great trombone!) and the sublime I'm a Prisoner (exquisite solo from trumpeter Keith Smith) from Blues Now on cd. From that album we at least have Otis Spann's Pretty Girls Everywhere and Mae Mercer's gutsy Sweet Little Angel. Raw Blues with Mayall, Clapton, Spann etc, can still be found on cd, just, but in case you can't get a copy, grab this while you can. The rest of the Decca Scene series cds look good too. Go get `em!
