It's nothing mind-blowing, that's for certain. There's moments when this leans into a more psychedelic territory and it excites me greatly, but then it settles back into this fairly tame, typical 21st century pop-soul. It's this battle of two halves that really aggravates me because when it's good, it's really good, but it only shines ever so briefly when it does decide to shine. Luckily the vocals and instrumental arrangements are all rock solid, the only complaint being that they verge on derivative. Aside from that, this is just a really relaxed, easy to listen to soul record that teases you with a few moments of serious greatness. Oh well, maybe if there's future releases we'll see more of that greatness.
