I was fortunate enough to see this live on Broadway, a show that I point to be the first time I have ever cried tears of joy. Seeing David Byrne, in the flesh, playing a smattering of solo work and extremely classic Talking Heads work was an experience that I remember so distinctly, above the 50+ shows I make it to
a year. Take this into account with my "review" with this live recording.
Onto this recording:
Weeks after the show, I learned about this recorded version and was overjoyed. I immediately revisited the whole thing and was very pleased with both the quality of the recording, and the actual performance by Byrne and his band. Of course, it will never compare to the actual live performance but I am satisfied with it. The less exciting/nostalgic songs from Byrne's solo work don't slow down the record and the reimagined takes of classic tunes make it more special then if he had just asked a backing band to play like the orignal records. I am happy with it and am glad that we have this.
I fully understand that without the experience of seeing this show in person, this recording is likely average to okay but as a token to revisit a very found memory of mine, I am thankful for it. Cheers
