I felt their self-titled album was a mixed bag, and inconsistent in genre. I heard a bit of indie, a bit of post-punk, a bit of emo, and electronic elements to their songs, so I’m not sure what the band would classify themselves as. I think this album is more consistently 80’s sounding, and with stronger production and clearer vocals (some tracks sounded like he was mumbling; now that is no longer the case) - it is a drastically improved album. For the most part, there is much more energy to the tracks, and there’s many memorable tracks and choruses (e.g. “UGH!”, “A Change Of Heart”, “She’s American”, “Somebody Else”, “The Sound”, “This Must Be My Dream”, “Paris”). Since I wasn’t a big fan of their earlier work, and it is a long album (70+ mins), I expected this to be bad, but instead - was pleasantly surprised.
